UDEHP workshop on Clinical skills and Assessment on 11th March 2024


On 11 th March 2024, UDEHP workshop on ‘ A way towards proficiency in clinical skills and assessment ‘ was held at JGMM Medical College, in the Medical Education Unit. 34 faculty from various clinical department like General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Anesthesia, Psychiatry attended this workshop to learn about changes and newer skill training and assessment techniques laid down by NMC and to sharpen their teaching skills in clinical subjects.

The participants reached the venue by 9 am. They were directed towards registration and breakfast. The ice breaking session and introductory session workshop was taken in brief by Dr Saurabh Kumar. This session was followed by session by Dr Archana Dambal Madam on effective skill teaching . Brief inaugural function was conducted after this session which was chaired by Dr M G Hiremath, Principal along with Dr Sharada Metgud, Vice Principal, Guest Speakers, Dr Archana Dambal , Dr Sameer Ahmed and MEU Coordinator and Program Coordinator , Dr Amrut A Dambal.

The inauguration session was followed by the session on Effective clinical skills teaching -SNAPPS, one minute preceptor by Dr Sameer Ahmed Sir Wherein Sir explained about various terminologies and how to implement the same. This session was followed by session by Dr Archana Dambal Madam on clinical Clerkship and log book documentation. In this session , other than the presentation, Madam showed how a log book should be, what are the subheadings in the same etc. These brainstorming sessions were followed by lunch which was a rich and delicious spread of savouries.

The first post lunch session was taken by Dr Sameer Ahmed on the topic Skill Lab Utilization in Clinical Teaching wherein group activity was also done. Dr Meghana Patil then gave a session on Overview of assessment in clinical skills. This was followed by session on designing OSCE station and Viva Station by Dr Archana Dambal. OSCE stations were designed to give a first hand experience to the participants. The post- test assessment was taken up. The mean score was 8 out of 10. There was a significant change in comparison with pretest score (5/10) indicating a good outcome from the workshop.

Participants filled up the feedback forms provided to them after each session.There has been a positive feedback from the individual participants towards the workshop. They expressed that the workshop was excellent and was a great learning experience. The valedictory function was conducted wherein resource faculty and participants were provided with the certificate of participation/presentation respectively. The participants of the workshop definitely were better off than they were before the workshop with regards to their clinical skills teaching and assessment which was evident from their pre and post test scores and feedbacks.
