Introduction

GOAL:

The goal of teaching undergraduate students in Physiology is to make them understand the Physiological principles and homeostatic mechanisms of normal human body, so that the students can comprehend the physiological basis of diseases.

OBJECTIVES:

A) KNOWLEDGE:

At the end of the courses, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the normal functioning of all organ systems, regulatory mechanisms and interactions of the various organs for well-coordinated total body function.
  • Understand the basic principles, mechanisms and homeostatic control of all the functions of human body as a whole.
  • Elucidate the physiological aspect of normal growth and development.
  • Analyse the physiological responses and adaptation of different stresses during life processes.
  • Lay emphasis on applied aspect of physiological functions underlying disease state.
  • Correlate knowledge of physiology in area indicated by National Health Programs.
B) SKILLS:

Acquire the following skills:

  • To do the experiments for study of physiological functions.
  • Interpret experimental and investigative data.
  • Distinguish between normal and abnormal data derived as a result of tests which he / she performed and observed in the laboratory.
C) INTEGRATION:

At the end of the integrated teaching the student shall acquire an integrated knowledge of organ structure and function and the regulatory mechanisms.

The Department of Physiology of KAHER’S JGMM Medical College constitutes dedicated faculty members, who are actively involved in teaching and research. Many are also active in cultural and sports activities. The department provides a good platform for MBBS course which is based on the CBME curriculum having vertical and horizontal integration. Various novel teaching and assessment methods are implemented for students to understand the normal body functions. The Students are provided with well-equipped, up to date instruments in research lab and other lab facilities to learn lab based human clinical examination and hematology. Students are provided additional facilities for learning on the E- Learning platform.
