Introduction to the Department and Objectives:
The subject of Forensic Medicine brings Law and Medicine together for preparing medical students for their medical, legal and social duties in medical profession. The Department is teaching, both theoretical and practical aspects of Forensic Medicine, Medical Jurisprudence and Medical Ethics as well as Toxicology to M.B.B.S. students during the Second year and Third year of the Course. The aim is to produce a physician who is well informed regarding the law in relation to medical practice and is capable of helping the Criminal Justice System in disbursement of justice. The department has a dedicated team of teachers who are well qualified and experienced. The department has adequate space with faculty rooms, admin office, practical hall, demonstration room, seminar room and research lab.
The department has an impressive Museum displaying specimens of bones, weapons, poisons, X-rays, photographs, models and charts for educating students and other visitors.
The objectives of the department are to
- To provide justice through medicine and serving humanity through ethics.
- To produce a doctor who is well informed about medico-legal responsibilities during the practice of medicine.
- To acquire knowledge of the law in relation to medical practice, medical negligence, consumer protection act and respect the codes of medical ethics.
- To create interest in the research in relation to various medico- legal problems.
