Introduction

The Department of Biochemistry at JGMM, Medical College has excellent infrastructure with practical hall, seminar room and departmental library with learning resources to collectively provide a clinical oriented learning ambience. Currently the department has a team of 8 dedicated faculty members involved extensively in teaching and research activities related to basic, clinical biomedical research.

Biochemistry is studied under the areas of chemistry of bio molecules, metabolism, molecular genetics, nutrition and clinical biochemistry. The discipline is considered as a preclinical subject for students of first year of medical course. The knowledge acquired in Biochemistry enables medical students to understand the scientific basis of life processes at the molecular level in health & disease.

Clinical Biochemistry laboratory at KLE Suchirayu Hospital provides quality healthcare to patients comprising of fully automated analyser, hormone analyser, nephelometer, ABG & Electrolyte analysers.

The objectives of the department are to

  • Offer excellent standard in quality education of CBME curriculum with emphasis on innovative, integrated clinical biochemistry teaching involving active participation of students in seminars, group discussions, early clinical exposure classes and hands on skills.
  • To conduct and support clinical research projects to both faculty and students.
  • To provide technical skills to carry out diagnostic, quality health care in clinical Biochemistry laboratory with quality control in compliance with NABL guidelines.
