Discipline of Pathology forms a vital bridge between initial learning phase of pre-clinical medicine and the final phase of clinical subjects. It underpins every aspect of patient care, from diagnostic testing and treatment advice to using cutting-edge genetic technologies and preventing disease. Pathology explains the whys and wherefores of the signs and symptoms manifested by the patient and also helps in providing a rational basis for treatment. Various sub-specialties of pathology include hematology, clinical pathology, cytopathology, histopathology and molecular pathology.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT:
- Use of modern innovative active teaching methods besides conventional teaching with Quiz, Student Seminars, DOPS, Case based/ Problem based Learning, Small group discussions (Flipped classroom, Fish bowl, Jigsaw, Buzz group) for effective implantation of CBME curriculum laid down by NMC.
- Department is well equipped with adequate learning resources with binocular and multihead teaching microscopes (penta and decahead) with projection, LCD demonstrations for lectures & practicals, slides for histopathology, cytopathology & hematology, charts and photographs for effective undergraduate teaching.
- Provision of modern equipment and infrastructure with automated haematology and coagulation analyzers, and urine analyzers, and automation in histopathology.
- Well-equipped museum with wet and dry specimens and dedicated section of PATH PANTRY – a unique feature of our department for undergraduate teaching.
